LED Light Bulbs on the CHEAP!

It's been a long time since I wrote something here, so I have chosen one that is sure to get your juices flowing!  LED light bulbs are all the rage these days, but they are just too darn expensive!  Well, as with all electronics the prices keep dropping and now they are priced at a reasonable amount.  Today, Staples is selling 2 LED light bulbs for $7.99.  Seems high for a light bulb, but you get two benefits from these bulbs.  They last literally forever.  Ok, something like 20 years they say, which is basically forever, right?  And they are VERY energy efficient.  They cost pennies to operate compared to the old fashioned bulbs, and they are even more efficient than the compact fluorescent bulbs.

So hurry and go to Staples' website to get this deal!  It's their daily deal, so this will only work today and I assume it will sell out fast!

But wait, that's not the end of the story!  Use the coupon code 69586 to cut the price by 15%!  AND if you sign up for their free rewards card, you get FREE shipping!  It is easy to sign up for the rewards card right from the shopping cart.

I ordered four of these bulbs, and with tax (can't escape Uncle Sam) my total price was $14.60 or $3.65 per bulb.  About a year and a half ago these bulbs were over $50 each!!!!

So hurry and get your LED bulbs on the CHEAP!

Download Images, Graphics, Backgrounds and More ON THE CHEAP! (actually FREE!)

The internet makes finding and using photos or other graphics easy right?  We just go to Google Images, search for what we want and copy it for our own personal use.  Totally legal, right?  I mean, it's online, it has to be legal!

Actually, it's not legal to copy most photos you find online for your own personal use.  Any photo, graphic design or other work of art is owned by the creator and using it without their permission is against Federal copyright law.  You could actually be sued by the artist, depending on how you use the image. This is where online stock agencies come into play.  These agencies allow you to legally download an image or other graphic for use without fear of being sued for copyright violation.

Since this blog is about getting things CHEAP, I am not going to tell you about all the agencies out there, but rather, today, I am writing about a new agency that for seven days is offering FREE downloads!  That's right, not simply CHEAP, but FREE!

Graphic Stock is a new online stock agency that is offering FREE downloads of 100,000+ images for the first seven days.  You can find them online here

If you want some free images,  you better hurry!  Happy downloading!

Enchilada Sauce on the CHEAP

Let's face it, enchiladas are an American staple, who doesn't love them? When it comes to having them at home you basically have two choices: buy frozen ones or make them yourself.

Today's entry on Rodney On The Cheap is all about making enchiladas at home CHEAP.  One of the most expensive ingredients needed to make them at home is the sauce.  When I went to the store to make them for this blog, I saw 28 oz cans of enchilada sauce for as much as $4.99 a can.  I did manage to find the Las Palmas brand of sauce for only $1.99, but this blog is all about making things CHEAP.

Most of us eat out at a fast food Mexican place at least once a month, and that is where you find the ingredients to make your home made enchiladas CHEAP.  The last couple times I went to my local Del Taco restaurant, I grabbed  a dozen extra packets of their hot sauce in two different varieties.

I emptied all the sauce packets into my pan and rolled a couple tortillas in the sauce, filled them with chicken and cheese and more sauce and topped them with cheese and a little more sauce.  The ready to go in the oven enchiladas are shown below with them fresh out of the oven below that.

My girlfriend Leslie and I each had one and compared them to the ones we made with the store purchased, canned sauce. How good were they?  Just look at the satisfied look on her face below! We both agreed that the ones made with the free sauce were better!

Hair cuts and other salon services ON THE CHEAP

It's been far too long since I wrote something for my blog, but I hope this one makes up for it!  How many of you wait a long time between hair cuts because, A) you dislike the experience and (or) B) it costs a lot? Well I found a way to get haircuts cheap and I tried it out yesterday with good results.  No, I am not talking about that crazy vacuum attachment thing that yanks all your hair out.  I am talking about a genuine hair cut given by a real live person.

So where do I get my cheap haircuts?  Check your local listings for beauty schools.  That's right, beauty schools.  You remember Grease the movie, right?  Well beauty schools need their students to practice and who better to practice on than you?  There is one not far from me that charges only, are you ready for it? Brace yourself!  $3 for a regular hair cut!  YES THREE DOLLARS!  Can you believe it?  I just happened to have a coupon for a free haircut at that location, so I didn't even have to pay the three bucks! Score! Yes, I did tip the girl who did my hair, but you normally do that anyway.  And the good part is, since they are students, you don't have to tip the usual $5 or $10.  A few bucks will buy them lots of Top Ramen!

So I am sure you are dying to hear about the results.  Well, she did a pretty good job.  The instructors (two of them) were walking around helping all the students, making sure they did a good job, answering questions, etc.  My girl needed help blending the sides and the instructor basically did that part of my cut.  I am happy with the results and I pasted a photo below.  (self taken cell phone shot)

So the next time you need a hair cut, you don't have to pull a twenty or two out of the ATM.  Just search your couch for loose change, and go to the nearest beauty school!   The school I went to in Corona, CA is called Amy Beauty School and they do a lot of other services like manicures, pedicures, hair coloring, facials, you name it.  All for CHEAP prices!

Pizza on the CHEAP!

If being cheap has taught me anything, its the fact that you cannot be a food snob and still save money.  I know most of us have a favorite local pizzeria where we can get a great gourmet pizza, but those places are anything but cheap.  $16.99 for a large pizza is not a good deal to me.  I even cringe when I pay $10 or $12 to be completely honest.

Well, for the next 9 days I will not be cringing when I order from one of my favorite chain pizzerias!  Pizza Hut is celebrating their 55th anniversary and from now until June 15th, you can get a large, one topping pizza for only $5.55!  You read that right, less than six bucks gets you a delicious pizza from Pizza Hut right now!

I got one today and I am sure over the next 9 days I will be eating several more pies before the deal expires!  Just to whet your appetite, here is the pizza I got today.

National parks ON THE CHEAP

It's Earth day and to celebrate all national parks and national monuments are free this week.  The last day is Friday.  Of course, the government would never give away something like this on a weekend when most of us could actually go, would they?

But if you're smart and cheap like me you'll go late on Friday,  get in free and find a place to spend the night.  Then enjoy the park on Saturday!

The dates are April 22nd through 26th.
